Professional systems

If a dealer installed your system, the shades belong inside it, not beside it.

• Control4 — shades appear as devices in your project and can join any existing scene, keypad button or schedule.
• Crestron Home — integrated into Crestron programming and interfaces.
• Savant — shades run as part of Savant scenes alongside lighting and AV.
• ELAN — controlled from ELAN touchscreens and app.

MikeTech Services has been doing this side of the work for years, which is the unusual part: most shade companies hand you a hub and wish you luck with your integrator.

Voice and phone

• Amazon Alexa — by room or by scene, on any Echo in the house.
• Google Assistant — on phone, speaker or display.
• Apple Siri — including from an Apple Watch and through Siri Shortcuts.
• Matter — the cross-platform standard, so the shades survive you changing phones or hubs.
• Samsung SmartThings — shades alongside the rest of your SmartThings devices.

Automation and advanced control

For people who want the house to run itself, or who have already built something custom:

• Home Assistant — local control, no cloud dependency, unlimited automation logic.
• IFTTT — trigger shades from anything IFTTT can reach.
• HomeSeer — supported for existing HomeSeer installations.

The scenes that actually get used

After a few hundred installations there is a pattern to what people keep. Almost nobody uses "open shade 4 to 60%". What they use is:

• Sunset — west-facing shades close before the room heats and before the glare arrives, on a schedule that follows the actual sunset through the year.
• Morning — the house opens at seven, except the bedrooms.
• Movie — one button drops the media room and dims the lights.
• Away — shades move during the day so an empty house does not look empty.
